PhD – EngD Candidate in Data-Driven Value-Based Healthcare
- Focus: Cloud and AI technologies in Image-Guided Therapy
- Department: Electrical Engineering
- Full-time Position (1.0 FTE)
- Application Deadline: August 30, 2024
- Reference Number: V36.7596″
Collaboration: Electronic Systems (ES) group, Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e), and Philips Image Guided Therapy Systems (Philips IGT-S)
Objective:
We seek an exceptional EngD candidate to explore data-driven value-based healthcare in image-guided therapy, focusing on overcoming industry challenges in adopting cloud technology due to latency and reliability concerns. The goal is to leverage cloud cluster computing and advanced AI algorithms to enhance real-time x-ray image stream analysis, improving intervention outcomes.
This EngD project involves developing cloud technologies for real-time interventional imaging. It is one of six EngD positions at Philips IGT-S set to be announced over the coming year. EngD candidates will join a specialized team at Philips and focus on:
- Reliable, low-latency network solutions with adequate redundancy and fallback systems.
- Cloud-based solutions for real-time image processing within a robust medical-grade processing framework.
The Electronic Systems (ES) group at TU/e comprises six full professors, three associate professors, five assistant professors, several postdoctoral researchers, approximately 40 EngD and PhD candidates, and support staff. The group is internationally recognized for its research in design automation and embedded systems. Their goal is to establish a scientific foundation for the design processes of electronic systems, spanning from digital circuits to cyber-physical systems. These processes are constructive, resulting in high-quality, cost-effective systems with predictable characteristics such as functionality, timing, reliability, power consumption, and cost.
Philips Image Guided Therapy (IGT) is a division within Royal Philips that specializes in developing innovative medical devices and solutions for minimally invasive and image-guided healthcare procedures. The IGT department focuses on enhancing precision and efficiency in procedures like interventional cardiology, radiology, and surgery. Their solutions integrate advanced imaging, data analytics, and visualization technologies to improve patient care and clinical outcomes.
Job Requirements:
We seek outstanding candidates who will contribute to the ES group and meet the following qualifications:
- A master’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field with excellent academic performance.
- Strong knowledge of computer architectures and hardware/software design.
- Proficiency in programming languages such as C or C++.
- A team-oriented individual who thrives in multicultural teams.
- Strong communication and organizational skills.
- Excellent command of the English language, both in writing and presenting.
Conditions of Employment:
We offer a fixed-term, 2-year position within a highly reputed research group, including:
- Salary and benefits aligned with the Collective Labour Agreement for Dutch Universities, scale TOIO (€2,618), including a pension scheme, paid pregnancy and maternity leave, and partially paid parental leave.
- A year-end bonus of 8.3% and annual vacation pay of 8%.
- Free access to a personal development program for EngD trainees to support your EngD journey and career preparation.
- Access to an excellent technical infrastructure, on-campus child care, and sports facilities.
- Allowances for commuting, working from home, and internet costs.
- Family-friendly initiatives, such as an international spouse program and on-campus child care and sports facilities.
- A Staff Immigration Team and a tax compensation scheme (the 30% facility) for international candidates.
